These terms cover your use of maskyourdocs.com. By using the site, you agree to them. They're written to be read, so please do.

What the service is

maskyourdocs is a free tool for removing sensitive content from PDF, Word (.docx), image and text files. It runs in your web browser. The files you open are processed on your own device and are not uploaded to us. The site also publishes guides on redacting documents. There's no account, subscription or fee.

Your files and your responsibility

You choose what to redact, and you're responsible for checking the result before you share it. In particular:

• The tool doesn't detect personal or sensitive information for you. It removes only what you mark.
• After export, the tool checks that the values you marked can no longer be read from the file. It cannot check for information you didn't mark, such as a name you missed or a detail inside a picture.
• Pages and parts of a file you didn't mark are copied through as they were.
• Redacted PDF pages become images, so their text can no longer be searched or copied. Keep your original if you need it.

You must have the right to use and modify the files you open, and you must not use the service to break the law or anyone's rights, for example by altering documents to deceive someone.

Guides are information, not advice

The guides explain how to redact common documents and what people usually choose to hide. They are general information, not legal, financial or compliance advice. If you're redacting for a court, regulator or employer, follow their rules.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", free of charge, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We work hard to make redaction reliable and test it in real browsers, but we don't guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for your particular use.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, maskyourdocs and the people behind it are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from information you shared that you did not redact, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ads and third-party services

The site shows ads from Google AdSense and uses Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics. These services are run by their providers under their own terms. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we're not responsible for their content. See the Privacy Policy for what they collect.

The site's content

The site's design, text and code belong to maskyourdocs. You're welcome to link to any page and to quote short parts of a guide with a link back. Files you redact remain yours: we claim no rights over them, and never receive them.

Changes

We may change the service or these terms. When the terms change, the date at the top of this page changes too. Using the site after that means you accept the updated terms.
